The Guyana Defence Force football team could clinch the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Banks Premier League competition today with either a win or a draw.

In the first match of the triple header Beacon, on 13 points will tackle Fruta Conquerors who are on 27 points.
President of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Vernon Burnett in an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport said that they had expected the league to come down to the wire as it was in the first place set up for competitiveness among teams.
“Football was not played in the city for a while so this was the best opportunity to give the teams a chance to play competitive football and at the same time gives us the GFA an opportunity to identify the top teams in the Georgetown,” said Burnett.
Following the completion of this tournament, the first eight teams will form the premier league while the remaining six will form the first division league.
The teams for the Premier League using the current points standings are GDF, 30 points, GFC and Riddim on 28 points, Sunburst Camptown and Fruta Conquerors on 27 points apiece, Santos on 26 points, Northern Rangers on 22 points and Police on 19 points.
