Berbice cyclists will showcase their skills today when the inaugural Island Mist Water-sponsored, 40-mile road race wheels off.
The event is open to all categories of cyclists and starts in front of the Guyana Beverage Company’s Berbice outlet at Palmyra, proceeds to Bush Lot, Corentyne and finishes where the event started.
The event, organized by Flying Ace Cycling Club coach, Randolph Roberts, will see prizes awarded to the first six finishers, first five juniors, first four juveniles, first two veterans and the first two females.
“Cycling is on the move. We have a lot of top cyclists in Region Six and without the sponsorship they will not be competing, they will not get competition,” Roberts said at the launching.
Country Manager of the Trinidad-based company, Robert Selman, pointed out that the company has been in operation for 17 years and said Guyanese and more particularly, Berbicans, have given great support to the company.
“This is one way to tell the people of Berbice thank you for your support. Without the public drinking our brand we would not be able to spend the money on sport,” he said.
