The Regma Primary School which produced the country’s number one Grade Six exam student last year, Terron Alleyne, has claimed the six top places for Region 10 at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment.
Two students tied for the number one position, Modesty Hosannah and Ashnar Angel, both with 532 marks and earned places at Queen’s College. Four of the top six were from teacher Cheryl Wills’s class; she was Alleyne’s teacher.
Regma’s Timal Phillips got 531 marks for a place at Queen’s College, Juwan Joseph 524 marks for Queen’s College, while both Brittany Ragbeer and Areeb Rodney would be heading to Bishops’ High with 524 marks each.
The other four of the Region’s top ten Grade Six Assessment students are from St Aidan’s: Eshoma Peters with 522 marks and Antwaun Parkinson 521 marks; Amelia’s Ward, Zenell Marks 521 marks; and Watooka Primary School, Theodore Adams Jr 521 marks.
When this newspaper visited Regma Primary School, Hosannah was noticeably shy and appeared unmindful of all the attention. She seems well poised to follow the footsteps of her older sister Melitia Hosannah, who has excelled at CSEC, CAPE and other exams. Bowing her head and obviously eager to get back to her family she briefly thanked her parents, God, her teachers and others who supported her. She said she was confident of her ability to excel but the wait for the release of the results made her very nervous. “I am happy with my performance and I know my parents and teachers are very proud of my performance,” she said.
Angel was a mixture of joy and excitement. He said that he was confident that he was going to make it into the country’s top school. “I just knew it; my mom is proud, my dad is proud, my teacher is proud and I am happy they got their due reward.”
He said he is now conditioning himself for the challenges of secondary school life. “I know I have to do a lot of lifestyle adjustments to stay in the competition but I will do it, I can do it, I am ready to do it,” said an excited Angel.
Headmistress of Regma Primary, Joan Rigby, complimented the children and teachers for the hard work and excellent performance.
“There is always room for improvement and we at Regma will continue to go the extra mile to ensure we get the best out of our children,” said Rigby.
