SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, CMC – Tagenarine Chanderpaul lashed his second consecutive half-century as Guyana racked up their second win of the Regional Under-17 Championship with a convincing 163-run demolition of Leeward Islands here today.
Playing in the third round, Tagenarine, the son of Test star Shivnarine Chanderpaul, hammered the joint top score of 79 as Guyana piled up 250 for seven off their 50 overs at Bon Accord.
Opting to bat first, the Guyanese also got 79 from Shimron Hetmeyer while Asham Hodge was the best bowler with three for 15.
In reply, the Leewards were bundled out for a paltry 87 off 27.5 overs with left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie finishing with four for 37.
Medium pacer Bernard Bailey took three for 16.
At Plymouth, Windward Islands handed Barbados their second straight defeat with a 58-run verdict.
Winning the toss and batting, the Windwards rattled up an impressive 281 for seven off their allotted 50 overs, with Gidron Pope missing out on a century with 95.
Keone George chipped in with a valuable 63 while Taryck Gabriel hammered 53.
Left-arm fast bowler Jerome Jones captured four for 32 and Demar Thorne, two for 54.
Barbados struggled in reply despite Jameel Stuart’s 61 to be dismissed 194 all out off 34.4 overs. Jones completed a fine all-round performance with 36 while Lee-Germon Gaskin got 35.
Preston McSween (3-20) and Deron Hypolite (3-26) picked up two wickets apiece.
Meanwhile, Jamaica strolled to their second win in as many matches by beating hosts Trinidad and Tobago by 18 runs at Shaw Park.
Sent in to bat, Jamaica were dismissed for 128 off 45.3 overs with Mark Parchment getting 23 and Al Small claiming four for 14.
Michael Hurst (2-13) and Fabien Allen (2-17) then helped bowl out T&T for 110 off 47 overs.
