As expected, frontrunners the Guyana Defence Force Sunday night clinched the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks DIH Limited-sponsored President’s Beer football league when the defeated hosts Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 3-1 at the GFC ground.
The scorers for the GDF were Jehu Drewley in the seventh minute, Captain Rayon Morrison in the eighth minute and Desford Williams in the 23rd minute.
The lone goal for GFC was scored by Roy Stanton in the 50th minute.
The win by GDF put them on an unassailable 33 points and saw them carting off the first place trophy and cash prize.
However, the second and third place finishers have not yet been declared because of a protest which was filed by Santos.
The protest is currently engaging the attending of the General Council which is the highest decision making body in the GFA.
This was confirmed by President of the Georgetown Football Federation Vernon Burnett when reached for a comment via telephone.
In the protest filed by Santos, it is alleged that Fruta Conquerors player Pernell Schultz,
Was an illegal player and as such Fruta Conquerors should have been declared winners of their game against Santos.
Outside of the protest Santos is not among the top four finishers but Fruta Conquerors are in second place at the moment on 30 points pending the outcome of the protest.
Sunburst Camptown, which defeated Santos 6-5 on penalty kicks after their match ended in a draw are on 29 points.
Riddim Squad with 28 points are fourth and Santos on 27 points fifth.
The teams advancing to the Premier League and who will compete in the upcoming GFA super eight tournament are: GDF, GFC, Riddim Squad, Northern Rangers, Santos, Sunburst Camptown, Fruta Conquerors and Police.
