Emo Fox, 39, was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of his father.
Fox, who allegedly stabbed his father multiple times, was remanded to prison after appearing before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Fox is that on July 1, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he attempted to murder Cyril Fox. The man was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of attempted murder when it was read to him.
The unrepresented Fox explained to the court that he resides at 73 Brickdam, Georgetown with his father. In his bail application, he told the court that he could move to Lot 25 Beterverwagting Main Road, East Coast Demerara, pending the outcome of the matter.
The prosecution, however, objected to the accused being granted bail, while noting that the man’s father is still hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital. The prosecution stated that the man sustained several stab wounds about his body and part of his intestines were protruding internally.
Fox, however, stated that his father had been discharged from hospital and that he had spoken to him at home yesterday morning before being arraigned.
When asked if the complainant was still hospitalised, the prosecution was unable to properly address the court on the issue.
The magistrate subsequently informed the accused that he would be remanded to prison.
She explained that while she had not yet seen a medical certificate, the injuries recorded in the case file that she read appeared to be serious.
The matter was adjourned to July 24 for reports and fixture. The magistrate ordered that in the interim the prosecution properly ascertains the status of the victim.
