Police said awaiting DPP’s response in UG lecturer fondling matter

The University of Guyana (UG) lecturer who was released on station bail sometime last week after allegedly fondling a  second year student at the Turkeyen Campus during a private tutoring session has not yet been charged with the offence.

The student stated that she was told by the police  that they are awaiting a response from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before further investigations are carried out since the matter was sent to the DPP for advice.

The student said that officials from UG are yet to contact her about the issue after she had reported it to the Assistant Dean of her Faculty.

The student had also alleged that the lecturer sought to buy her silence with the promise of a copy of an examination paper after he tried to push his hands in her pants during a private tutoring session at his office.

The student and a friend had arranged the private classes with the lecturer at a cost of $4000 which they both attended for over a month without any incident. However, on the night of the incident the student allegedly went to the lecturer’s office without her friend.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Marlene Cox told Stabroek News last week when the allegations were made that a report had been made to the university which was  investigating the matter.
