His mother was struck several times in her abdomen and she was also gun butted several times by the men. They were both taken to the Skeldon Hospital by relatives.
The family was robbed of some $160,000, mobile phones among other devices and a quantity of jewellery.
According to reports, around 6:30 pm last evening, a neighbour of the Busjits saw a car slowing down along the No. 41 Village Public Road close to the defunct Mohan Powaru gas station, several lots away from the house which was attacked.
After stopping briefly, three men disembarked and started to walk east along the roadway in the direction of Skeldon.
According to a resident, the three men “suddenly dash in this yard where Perry and he mother renting this house and the woman start to holla fa thief”. She said that in the ensuing minutes, the bandits entered the house and began to ransack the building while asking the occupants for money.
The resident said that the woman ran upstairs and locked a door while her son was in another section of the house. She said “the woman start brace the door and try foh keep them out but is there they bruck down the door and start beat the woman in she head and body“.
The woman’s son ran to assist his mother and attempted to wrestle a gun away from one of the men and during the scuffle he was shot.
The woman stated that during the ordeal, she attempted to call the No 51 Village Police station but the phone was busy.
The bandits continued to ransack the family’s home and during the attack the woman’s 13 -year -old granddaughter was slammed into a wall by the men after she refused to tell the intruders where the family had money. After robbing the family, the men ran east along the roadway and boarded a car which was waiting along the roadway.
Three children who were staying at the house were spared the attack as they were playing with other children at a neighbour’s house when the incident occurred.
According to a neighbour, ”soon as we see these men come up the road I pick up my phone then when they attack the people I trying to call the police at number 51 station but the phone busy for like 15 minutes straight”. The woman related that she called the police at Skeldon and after being redirected to several police stations, she spoke to a senior officer at New Amsterdam who informed that the police were on their way to the scene.
She said that the police arrived at the scene close to 45 minutes after the bandits left. The woman stated that Busjit’s relatives who live along the Corentyne were informed of the incident and they later took their injured relatives to the Skeldon Hospital.
According to the neighbour, Patricia Busjit is visiting Guyana along with her five grandchildren and a daughter who is staying at another section of the Corentyne. She said that the robbery appeared to be planned since the woman and her son are renting the home where the incident occurred. ”Perry and he mother staying there a month now since she come in Guyana and these men just walk up and know where they have to go”, the woman stated.
She said that the area is sparsely populated, adding that the house which was robbed is located more than 400 meters away from the next dwelling. “This area people does come off the road early and when we see strange people we does get concerned“, the woman added.
This newspaper was told that Perry Busjit was admitted to the Skeldon Hospital in a stable condition while his mother was being treated for the blows she sustained to her body.
The police are said to be investigating the incident.
