Horse rescued from Lamaha St canal: Fire-fighters, public-spirited citizens – including a tourist and a local entertainer – all went to the rescue of a horse that got stuck in the Lamaha Street canal at the intersection of Irving and Lamaha streets yesterday . The horse had slipped into the trench and gone under water for a while. Ropes around its neck were used to extricate it. During the rescue, the fearless tourist soothed the animal by rubbing its head and speaking to it, as rescuers attempted to pull him onto land. Local entertainer Joel Gansham offered a monetary reward to persons who assisted. The horse, too, was given sugar which after resuscitation he ate in abundance. Photo shows the rescuers hard at work.
