Hoping to capitalize of the recent upsurge in fitness activities by both men and women in Guyana, young entrepreneur Fahmi Waddell and his business partner Alicia Rambarran, have embarked upon a business venture in keeping with the recent fitness trend.
The duo on Saturday opened their latest business venture, Fitness Planet, a store which sells fitness apparel for the fashion conscious who, despite what many believe, are not only women.
Located at 335 East Street, the store sells clothing for the many persons who pay thousands of dollars each month to work out at the numerous gyms in Georgetown and beyond.
Waddell said future plans will see the business expanding to provide a gym and dietary supplements.
With the venture, Waddell, a re-migrant, is showing faith in the Guyana economy and the Guyana fitness community.
According to the duo, they had always harboured a desire to open a fitness shop and one that has affordable prices to match everyone needs.
Waddell added that launching the business was also done in an effort to assist Guyanese in living fitter and healthier lives.
“We want to make it easier and less expensive for the Guyanese public so they could get quality fitness clothing and other equipment at a lower cost,” Rambarran stated.
“We did a general feedback and found that our prices are below that of a few other fitness stores around town,” a smiling Waddell stated.
When asked about the background of the Planet Fitness Pro shop as it is named, the proprietor stated that the name came from his fitness gym that he attends in New York.
He also stated that he has had trouble controlling his weight.
“I’m now proud of my weight and size ever since I joined the Planet Fitness Gym overseas. So it’s my way of endorsing the gym so our name came from there. All we did was added pro to it,” he added.
At Fitness Planet Pro there are all kinds of brand name fitness gear and equipment and a lot more equipment for an effective workout.
The women will likely swoon over the assortment of training tees, sport bras, racer back tanks, compressed sleeveless tops, thermo jackets, swim wear, training shorts, reversible shorts, leggings and capris while the men will likely go agog over the tanks, t-shirts, long sleeve performance tops, v-neck jerseys and mesh shorts, athletics shorts, basketball shorts that are on display..
Waddell said that despite the store being a clothing line, he has in stock a small quantity of gym equipment including jump ropes, barbells, weight lifting gloves and pull up bars.
Waddell plans to employ at least three persons initially to help serve the public.
