From a whopping 154 four teams that entered this year’s Digicel Schools football championships only eight teams are left standing and will be battling for the four coveted semi-final spots when the quarter-finals takes place tomorrow at various venues.
At the Skeldon Community Ground, Region 7 champions Waramadong Secondary will play Region 2 champions Charity Secondary while Christianburg Secondary of Region 10will tackle Region 6 champions Tutorial High School at Wisburg.
Over at the Carifesta Sports Complex ground, Region 9 champions, St. Ignatius Secondary, will play Lodge Secondary of Georgetown while Bygeval Secondary of Region 4 will play Region 3 champions Leonora Secondary at the Beterverwagting Community Centre ground.
Among this year’s quarter-finalists are five repeaters with eyes set on Waramadong Secondary as well as the grand prize.
The others are: Charity Secondary of Region 2, Christianburg Secondary of Region 10, St. Ignatius out of Region 9 and Region 4 champions, Bygeval Secondary.
The other three school teams are newcomers: Tutorial High School of Region 6, Lodge Secondary from Georgetown and Leonora Secondary of Region 3.
During the play offs, many students are getting the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Guyana while showcasing their skills which got their teams thus far.
Each of the eight teams all have a chance of advancing to the semi-finals but that is determined on how well they are able to execute their game plans tomorrow.
The venues of the two semi-finals to be played on Friday will be announced at the end of the quarter-final matches.
Meanwhile, officials of the competition yesterday informed this newspaper that GITC did not field an over-aged player during their match with the New Campbellville Secondary as was previously stated.
