After capturing the local featherweight title in destructive fashion last month, Clive ‘Wonder Kid’ Atwell will return to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to headline this month’s 25th edition of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) Fight Night Pro Am card.
Atwell, 23, will match gloves with Barbados-based Guyanese Revlon Lake in an eight-round junior welterweight encounter on July 27.
The professional segment of the card will become official today at the contract signing at the Abdool and Abdool Building on Avenue of the Republic.
The undefeated Dominica-based Atwell who is coming off a second round TKO victory against Rudolph Fraser will be brimming with confidence ahead of his ring date against the more experienced Lake.
Lake’s record reads six wins, six losses and two draws. He last fought in February against undefeated junior welterweight Barbadian Miguel ‘Hands of Stone’ Antoine for the vacant junior welterweight CABOFE title. Lake lost the 12-round bout unanimously.
The ‘Wonder Kid’ has an unblemished record of five wins and a draw.
The undercard will feature Pocket Rocket Boxing gym products bantamweight Richard Williamson and lightweight Kishan Simon making their professional debut.
Williamson, who had an outstanding amateur career which includes winning a silver medal at the Ronald Wilson Memorial Tournament last year in Trinidad, will match gloves with Dillon Allicock while Simon will take on Errol Trotman. Both of those bouts are scheduled for four rounds.
Gladwin Dorway who won his debut bout last month by stopping David Thomas in the second round will also feature on the undercard. Dorway will face Anson Green who also won his debut fight against Thomas in a four round junior welterweight affair.
The names of the boxers who will make up the amateur segment of the card will be announced subsequently.
The monthly card is an initiative of the GBBC in collaboration with the Sports Ministry and the National Communications Network (NCN).
Sponsors of the event include Digicel, Giftland Office Max, Courts, Banks DIH Limited and ANSA McAL.
Admission is $1,000 while children will be asked to pay half price. Bell time is 20:00 hrs.
