The man found in the bedroom of a 13-year-old, at Ogle, on Monday, met her on social networking site Facebook, according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, who said investigators are trying to determine whether she told him her real age.
The man, who Persaud noted is a trainee and not a police constable as police originally reported, remained under close arrest up to press time last evening.
Persaud, when contacted, told Stabroek News yesterday that there area number of things that have to be investigated thoroughly before a determination of possible charges are made.
The teen underwent a medical examination.
Persaud explained that based on the information received, the trainee met the teen on Facebook. Investigators have to determine if the girl revealed her true age on that forum, he said, while adding that the girl’s physical appearance will also be considered as part of the investigation.
Asked whether in light of the situation the rank will be removed from the training programme, Persaud told this newspaper that they will have to look at all the evidence and then make a determination.
Police on Monday said the man was found during checks by the girl’s parents at 3:30am at their Ogle, East Coast Demerara home.
