The suspect in the murder of Kemraj Dass who was allegedly killed aboard a tug and dumped into the river was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Leslie Sobers at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
Gilbert Gill, 19, of Silver Hill, Linden, will make his next court appearance on November 20, a police press release said yesterday.
Dass, known as `Lakeram’ or `Lako’, 47, of Lot 16 Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, boarded a vessel to collect lumber up the Demerara River on Saturday last along with Gill and his father. It is suspected that an argument ensued between the Gill and Dass and he was allegedly stabbed and his body dumped overboard.
A post-mortem examination which was conducted by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh revealed that the man died of an incised wound to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
