Waramadong, St. Ignatius, Bygeval and Christianburg Secondary Schools are all into the semi-finals of the Digicel School’s Football Competition.
At the Skeldon Community Ground, Waramadong Secondary of Region 7 inflicted a 9-0 drubbing on Region 6 champions Tutorial High.
Cirilo George, who was injured a few minutes into the game, went on to score five goals in the 23rd, 47th, 57th, 76th and 83rd minutes. There were calls for him to be replaced but the young striker said no, as there were no injuries to his feet. George sustained an injury to his head in a clash with a player from Tutorial as they fought for possession. The other scorers were Kenzy George and McCuro Crammer who each scored two goals in the 5th and 54th and 85th and 88th minutes respectively.
Waramadong’s coach Tionson Kenswil said that he expected his team to win and that the margin of victory was not unexpected.
According to him, while he does not know which of the other three semi-finalists his team will come up against, he said he was confident that his boys will make it to the final and also win the tournament.
Tutorial’s Teacher/Coach Sukahnauth Utan said that his team did not play as expected. He also said the goalkeeper was unwell. He, however added that the better team won and he wished them well in their pursuit for the championship title.
The Waramadong team was cheered on by their supporters among them parents who travelled to the city and were then transported to the venue by Digicel. Even a few Berbicians who were at the venue to support Tutorial eventually started to cheer on the boys from Waramadong who they recognised were playing better football.
They boys not only thrilled their supporters with their ability to score, but with their excellent foot work, their ability to control the ball and passes that 90 percent of the time were collected by the right player.
In Linden, Christianburg Secondary whipped Charity 11-1 while at the Tucville Ground, Region 4 champions Bygeval defeated Leonora and Region 9 champions St. Ignatius Secondary defeated Lodge Secondary.
