The policeman who was stabbed on Wednesday evening at Sophia remains a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Burton Carmichael, a sergeant in the Guyana Police Force was attacked sometime between 19:30 hours and 20:00 hours on the bridge to his home. He was stabbed in the region of his right shoulder and under his left ribcage.
Although initial reports indicated that his assailant was another policeman, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday told Stabroek News that the attacker was not an officer but only Carmichael’s neighbour. Persaud said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
This newspaper made efforts to speak to the injured man at the hospital yesterday but he indicated that he is unwilling to do so.
