An employee of the Mabaruma Power Station sustained injuries to his left leg and shoulder, when an electric post he was working on fell on him on Thursday evening at Brooms Hill, Mabaruma.
Nigel David, 46, of Mabaruma, Region One, was air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning to seek further treatment.
At the city hospital, the man said he was called during the evening hours and was told that a Brooms Hill compound was without electricity owing to a problem with the wiring. He said he was asked to travel to the site to have the issue rectified, which he did.
“I work with the power company; Mabaruma got their own company, not GPL… And they said the compound isn’t getting light,” David told this newspaper as he waited to have his leg and shoulder scanned.
This newspaper understands that the incident occurred around 8 pm. David ecounted that while he was on the ladder, the post felt unstable and within seconds he had fallen to the ground. He was unable to recall anything further.
Persons in the area, however, told this newspaper that while David was climbing the ladder, which was leaning against the post, the post collapsed and landed on top of him.
Meanwhile, Stabroek News was told that there was no medical personnel on the aircraft to assist David during the flight to Georgetown. David was reportedly placed to lie flat on the floor of the small airplane during the transfer.
