Five gunmen attacked and robbed a Saman Street, Guyhoc Park resident last evening and police later launched a search for the getaway car.
Up to press time last evening, police were searching for the white Toyota Allion car, bearing licence plate PMM 6172, used by the gunmen.
According to reports, around 9:10 pm last evening, five men were seen in the car circling the home of a retired army officer, who was only identified as “Mr Dabydeen,” at Guyhoc Park.
According to an eyewitness, the car circled the busy Saman Street twice and on the third occasion, it stopped in front of the man’s home. The witness said that as soon as the car came to a halt, he saw two men at in the back seat, one of whom was “ducking down,” while the driver wore a cap almost covering his face.
He added that two other men, who were dropped off by the car several houses away, “come up and scale this big man fence and start demanding money and gold”. He said that the man was at the time sitting in the patio of his house with friends when the incident occurred. The two men, one of whom brandished a gun, relieved the man of his gold chain and other pieces of jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt during the robbery.
The car later sped off, heading south out of the community and residents noted that they recognised two of the bandits, saying they belonged to the Tucville and North East La Penitence areas.
This newspaper visited the home where the robbery occurred but persons there were tight-lipped about it. At the East La Penitence Police station where Dabydeen went to report, several persons reported that a white car, fitting the description of the car used in the Guyhoc robbery, slammed into the side of their vehicle along Vlissengen Road. They said that the driver of the car, with several persons, sped off in the direction of the 1763 monument.
According to the police, patrol units were alerted of the incident and ranks were searching for the car and its occupants.
