Two University of Guyana lecturers will pursue advanced studies in the United Kingdom from September this year as part of the package they were awarded under the 2012 Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan.
Michelle Semple-McBean, Lecturer in the Department of Foundation and Education Management, School of Education and Humanities, has been awarded a scholarship, while Dr Thomas Singh of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences received the Academic Fellowship award.
Semple-McBean will pursue doctoral studies in Early Childhood Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. Singh will be updating his knowledge and develop skills in experimental and behavioural economics during a three-month course at the University of Kent.
Vice Chancellor of UG, Dr Marlene Cox, explained in a press release that the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission receives thousands of applications annually and recipients are chosen based on academic merit, their proposal’s quality and the likely impact of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country.
She noted that the university is delighted that its two nominees were successful in the competition, while congratulating them.
