PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Powerhouses Jamaica crushed St Lucia to start their Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Caribbean Championship on a winning note here Saturday.
Playing at the Jean Pierre Complex, the Sunshine Girls buried the St Lucians 72-31, with Jhaniele Fowler shooting 63 from 69 attempts.
St Lucia, coached by former Jamaican star Connie Francis, trailed 5-23 at the end of the first quarter and were down 16-39 by half-time.
The second half proved a rout as Jamaica stepped up the intensity with Vanessa Walker, with five goals and Ann-Kaye Fowler, with four, supporting the outstanding Fowler.
Hosts Trinidad and Tobago also started their campaign in fine style when they clobbered Guyana 104-10 while the United States defeated Grenada 41-37.
