Schools’ out youths are at home. Stabroek News asked young people at Linden about their plans for this holiday season. This is what they had to say:
Tenesha Gilgeous – ‘I am attending Sir Alert’s lessons, which will take about 2 weeks. I’ll be doing the subject Mathematics and so far it has been good because he taught me well and I plan to achieve good grades in the end and to be successful in CXC. Other that than I have no specific plans but will be going with the tide.’
Shamar McGregor – ‘I would like to spend the August holiday with my friends, playing with them and hanging out. I also plan on making new friends at VBS [vacation bible school]. Anything else would be decided by my parents. So right now this is as much as I could say unless I am advised otherwise.’
Tyrel Rose – ‘My August plans would include going out, spending time with my friends and playing a little since I don’t have to worry about exams because school will be closed and that is the best time for me. I will enjoy myself with my family and others.’
Shawn Sansclotte –‘Well I just completed high school and my plan is to continue working on my job. I will go to church and remain humble. I don’t wander about the place idly looking for trouble I prefer to work and occupy my time usefully. I don’t want to work far away like most people. I prefer to stay right here in Linden.’
Sherita Bourne – ‘I plan to spend time with my family in Georgetown, chatting with my friends, going out, attending missionettes on Saturday and revising for my new class which I will be entering, which is One Diamond at the Mackenzie High School.’
Tiffany Lespoir – ‘Well I don’t plan on doing anything too important since I have just finished writing CXC and I’m awaiting my results. My aim is to get into Cyril Potter College of Education since I plan to become a teacher, and that’s about it for my vacation.’
Dalon Chapman –‘My plans for this August vacation is to get a two-month job to maintain myself, because it’s a holiday. I’m looking forward for something useful to do with my time because school will soon be re-opening and I have to get back in class. Times rough and if I can earn to do certain things for myself it would be a good thing.’
Shallum Samuels – ‘Well I’m not doing anything much, I would just like to help my cousin prepare for the National Grade Six exam and I will also be preparing to enter the Mackenzie High School, most of my friends will be going there also.
I prayed to God to help me be successful at my exams and this is not the ending but it’s the beginning for me. I also plan to help my mother, brother, aunts, and grandmother with chores. I will be attending my church Vacation Bible School because it’s nice to sit and listen to the word of God and I’m encouraging others to pray to God because he will work things out for them.’
Desmond Johnson –‘I plan to travel to Antigua and work with my brother-in-law. I plan to visit the beaches on the island and also go sight-seeing. I am looking forward to a working, bread-earning holiday. With how times going you have to look at every little possible way to make a dollar and being a youth I have to do it the wise way and that would mean taking advantage of honest and good opportunities.’
Schnace Wilson –‘For this holiday season I am really looking forward to spending some quality time with my father. If circumstances allow I’ll probably be going to some youth camp some place. Other than that I need to improve on my school grades so I’ll be discussing with my mom how best we can work on getting me some help so I can do better come next school year.’
