Vigilance girl still critical following accident

Fourteen-year-old Leota Eastman, who was struck down on Saturday by a car while riding her bicycle in the vicinity of Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is clinging to life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

The student of Beterver-wagting Community High School sustained a broken leg and injury to the brain and is attached to a life support machine at the institution. Doctors are monitoring her condition closely.

When Stabroek News visited the Hospital yesterday relatives of Eastman gathered and prayed over her pictures for her speedy recovery.

One of the girl’s aunts, Yonette Scott, told this newspaper that Eastman is in a critical condition and she is unable to speak.

Eastman of Vigilance, ECD was stuck down around 11am, by a Toyota Allion car bearing registration number PNN 7827. The entire front windscreen of the vehicle was damaged and the bicycle the girl was riding lay in the middle of the road mangled.

The driver is said to be in Police custody at the Vigilance Police Station assisting with investigations.
