Everest Cricket Club yesterday defeated the Friends and Former Guyana Cricketers (FFGC) team in the second of the two memorial T20 games organized by the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in honour of the late DCC and Guyana opening batsman Andrew Lyght.
Everest Cricket Club won the match by eight wickets.
On a day blessed with sunshine and watched by Clive ‘Super Cat’ Lloyd, umpire Lynden Matthews and former Test Umpire Eddie Nicholls were the umpires as the Friends and Former Guyana Cricketers team batted first and worked their way to 127. The match was well supported by patrons of the cricket community as fans and former players turned up to see a belated exhibition of the class that was still evident from many of the former Guyana players.
Andrew Lyght Jr., top scored with 28 for the FFGC team striking one six and two fours. Deryck Kallicharran, former Guyana all rounder, scored 20 while Clayton Lambert, the former Guyana and West Indies opener hit three fours in 18. Troy Gonsalves had four for 21 in 4 over.
In familiar conditions and on a flat track with the boundaries brought in for this game Everest made light work of the target winning in the 17th over as Dharshannan Lall stroked a rapid 27 not out with two sixes and two fours. Former Guyana wicketkeeper Sheik Mohamed and Brian Persaud ran well between the wickets and timed the ball nicely as they put on 79 for the opening wicket. Persaud made 52 from 30 balls with eight fours and two sixes while Mohamed made 28. Lall came to the crease when Rohan Sarjoo was run out cheaply with the score on 85 but ensured no further casualty as Everest strolled to 133-2.
