PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago demolished new opponents to continue their domination of the Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Championship in Port of Spain Tuesday night.
Former title holders Jamaica humbled Canada 79 -19 while defending champions Trinidad and Tobago subdued Grenada 78-29 at the Jean Pierre Complex.
The Canadians were completely outclassed by the rampaging Jamaicans who led handsomely in all quarters 23-3, 45-5 and 59-3.
Jhaneile Fowler sank 50 goals from 53 attempts and Shantal Slater 13 from 14 to lead for the sunshine girls who have returned to the AFNA after a four year hiatus.
Cherry Nickie top scored for Canada with 13 goals from 17 tries.
Similarly, the calypso girls ran rings around their Grenadian neighbors who struggled to keep pace.
Anastascia Wilson sank 48 from 53, Joelisha Cooper 13 from 13 and Jellene Richardson 13 from 15 as the Trinidadians led 23-4, 39-11, and 57-18.
Sharon Jeremiah scored 20 and missed eight for Grenada.
Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, perennial rivals, appear to be maintaining an unbeaten run ahead of a high stakes tournament deciding clash on Saturday.
Meantime, Barbados remained unbeaten as well after romping to a lopsided win over Guyana.
The Guyanese crumbled under the might of Barbados who sailed to victory 112 -13 inspired by Laurel Browne 47 goals from 50 tries, Nikita Piggott 19 from 20 tries and Shonica Wharton 35 from 40 attempts.
Barbados led 31-3, 58-4 and 87-7 at the quarters.
Also in winner’s row was the United States who recovered from a defeat at the hands of St. Lucia the night before to beat Bermuda 64-28.
