Reigning ladies champion Aruna Ramrattan and her partner Leyland Leacock got the better of the lively team of Shawna Gentle and Gavin Lewis in claiming a 6-3 6-7 (8-6) 6-3 win in the mixed doubles of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Open lawn tennis tournament when matches continued on Sunday evening at the GBTI Recreational Centre, Bel Air.
Ramrattan and Leycock established good footing in the first set, but a strong assault in the second set saw Lewis and Gentle up 5 – 3 before the game evened at 5-5 as Leacock then held serve which lead to the eventual tie-break. Gentle and Lewis were able to win the tiebreak and send the match to a deciding set but it was Ramrattan and Leycock who ended on the better side of the 6 – 3 final set finish.
