Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration of the Republic of Ecuador, Ricardo Patiño, will today pay an official visit to Guyana, and he will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with his Guyanese counterpart.
During his visit, the Ecuadoran foreign minister will engage in discussions with his Guyanese counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, aimed at enhancing relations between the two sides at the bilateral, regional and international levels, a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“The Ministers will sign a Memorandum of Understanding that would establish a mechanism for regular political consultations between the two countries,” the release stated.
Minister Patiño is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar. He will also meet with Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Secretariat.
Minister Patiño’s visit to Guyana coincides with his visit to three other Caribbean countries (Cuba, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago) with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between Ecuador and the Caribbean in the spheres of trade, tourism, education and cultural cooperation.
He will be accompanied by Minister of Tourism of Ecuador, Freddy Ehlers, and a delegation comprising officials from various government agencies in Ecuador.
