Several vehicles suffered extensive damage on Friday evening after a Demerara Shipping Company container truck slammed into a Prado at the corner of Main and Middle streets, Georgetown. However, there were no reported injuries.
According to reports, the container truck, GJJ 609, was proceeding north along Main Street and the Prado PJJ 5919 was heading west out of Middle Street. However, both vehicles failed to stop at the intersection, since the traffic lights were blinking and the container truck slammed into the prado.
The impact caused the Prado to come to halt after hitting a parked RAV4, PMM 2470; the container hit a parked Hilux Pickup, GPP 3396.
Driver of the truck, Manraj (only name given), told this newspaper that he saw the Prado but did not stop because he thought that it would have stopped to allow him to proceed.
He added that he came to a halt after colliding with the parked pickup truck and shifting a utility pole that was nearby.
The Prado driver, Morse Archer, said he thought he could have made it out of the street before the truck reached him but his efforts were unsuccessful. However, he is contending that he was not wrong for making that move.
The owners of the other two vehicles involved were nowhere around the scene when this newspaper arrived and it was suggested that they were possibly at the nearby clubs partying.
