Seon Robinson of Lot 8 East La Penitence was yesterday placed on $225,000 bail when he was brought before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on two counts of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on July 20 at Georgetown, the 19-year-old and another person, while armed with an ice pick, robbed Clint Calendar of one BlackBerry cellular phone and gold jewellery, totalling $222,000 in value.
It is also alleged that on the same day at about 08:30 hrs, the defendant and another person, armed with a knife and an ice pick, robbed Elka Dean of one MP3 player valued $16,000.
The court was told by Police Corporal Simone Payne that the accused made good his escape after committing the alleged offences but was later spotted by one of the complainants and arrested.
Robinson denied both charges when they were read to him.
The teen was unrepresented by counsel but made an application for bail. The prosecution objected to his bail application, citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
The magistrate, after hearing the case, remanded the defendant and transferred his matter for report and fixture for trial to Court Two where Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty presides.
While there, Magistrate Mc Gusty granted Robinson his pretrial liberty but stated that it will be in a substantial sum.
The matter will be called again on August 7.
