(Trinidad Express) The four police officers who were arrested last week and subsequently charged with kidnapping and robbery made their first appearance before a Port of Spain magistrate on Monday.
The officers appeared before Magistrate Melvin Daniel in the Fourth (B) Court, charged with kidnapping Larry Barran on May 12, in Daisy Road, Ste Madeleine, and robbing him of TT$2,240.
They are PCs Reeves Boodoo, of Iere Village, Branch Road, Ste Madeleine; Roger Singh, of Kalpoo Street, St Margaret’s Old Road, Claxton Bay; Errol Manphool, of Solomon Street, Cedar Hill, Princes Town; and Neil Harripersad, of Poona Road, Williamsville.
Upon their appearance, the officers were not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably.
Boodoo faces an additional charge of defrauding another officer of the Mayaro Police Station in the sum of TT$340.
All four accused were last attached to the Ste Madeleine Police Station.
They were arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau on Thursday and charged with the offences over the weekend by Sgt Michael Veronique.
After being charged, the officers were granted bail while at the station by a justice of the peace. That bail bond was endorsed by Daniel on Monday.
The matters were transferred to the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court and will continue next Monday.
