A taxi driver of 52 Dowding Street, Kitty was on Monday placed on $25,000 bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to kill his reputed wife.
Orlando Headley, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. The charge stated that on July 21 at Georgetown, he made use of threatening language to Zaleema Mohammed, the mother of his child.
The prosecution stated that on the day in question, the defendant went to Mohammed’s home “improperly dressed” and demanded to see his daughter. Mohammed refused to open her grilled door to let him in and the defendant began to abuse her and threatened to kill her.
The unrepresented Headley applied for bail and the prosecution raised no objection.
However, the prosecution asked that the defendant refrain from having anything to do with the complainant pending the outcome of the matter.
The magistrate, after hearing the case, advised Mohammed that she can apply for a Protection Order under the Domestic Violence Act if she feels threatened by the defendant.
Headley was granted bail in the sum of $25,000 and he is scheduled to return to court on July 30.
