Veteran Carlos Adams defeated Harry Panday on Monday to retain men’s over 45 singles title as the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Open tournament continued at the GBTI Recreational Centre.
Adams won 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.
Seweon McGarrell ruled the roost in the novice category overcoming Russian Victor Demchenko 7-5 in the one set encounter.
In the men’s Open singles Gavin Lewis defeated Benedict Sukra 6 – 1, 6 – 0 one day after he had beaten Sukra in similar fashion to claim the boys’ junior title.
Lewis is expected to face the tournament’s top seed Jeremy Miller in the semi-finals next.
The other men’s singles match will see Sandeep Chand opposing the defending champion Anthony Downes in a quarter finals while Gilbert Barckoy will take on his double partner Leyland Leacock in another men’s singles encounter.
