After overcoming Barbados and Bermuda on day one of the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Junior Team Championships in Jamaica, Guyana’s female team completed a clean sweep against The Cayman Islands yesterday.
Guyana’s girls team was not even at full strength, as they rested Under 17 runner up Victoria Arjoon and Under 15 runner up Larissa Wiltshire, yet they still managed dominate the Cayman Islands. Since the Cayman Islands team was without an U13 player Rebecca Low gained a walkover.
In the other four matches however, the Golden Arrowhead girls secured commanding straight-game wins. Team captain and recently crowned girls U19 champion Mary Fung-A-Fat completed an impressive win against Eilidh Bridgeman in the U19 first string match up. The four-time U19 champion still has not dropped a game in any of her matches in both the singles and team tournaments.
Under-19 second string Ashley deGroot took apart Kristina Myren in straight games while Akeila Wiltshire dominated Laura Connelly (3-0). Taylor Fernandes also swept past Nina Foster in her U15 match up.
With only six competing countries in the girls’ team tournament at Junior CASA this year, Guyana needs just two more wins to capture yet another team title. In their final matches Guyana will take on Jamaica who have already conceded one loss, and Trinidad and Tobago, who defeated Jamaica on day one.
