The dental boat Lady Janet was deployed last Wednesday and Thursday as the Ministry of Health and the Suddie Public Hospital undertook a medical outreach in several districts in the Pomeroon River.
The outreaches saw 511 residents from various communities benefitting from a range of health services, including dental services.
According to a press release, personnel from the Suddie Public Hospital and several health centres and health posts in Region Two organised the service. In Karawab, personnel attended to 138 individuals; 98 out-patients were treated; 23 were tested for low vision; 16 were given dental care; four, audiology tests, and one tested for HIV.
At St Monica and Kabaka-buri, 162 and 196 residents, respectively, benefitted from similar care. At St Monica, 82 out-patients were seen: 42 were tested for low vision; 20 received dental services; six were given audiology tests; 13 were tested for HIV and five for tuberculosis.
Ninety-six out-patients were treated at Kabakaburi; 45 were tested for low vision; 41 were treated for dental problems; five were given audiology tests and 14 tested for HIV. In addition, 102 reading glasses were issued to persons tested at various outreach canters and health posts.
According to the release the services were carried out by acting medical superintendent Dr Bob Ramnauth, medical outreach coordinator/ pharmacist Kumar Dass and medical records supervisor Shanta Springer.
