Dear Editor,
I am a concerned relative of Budram Persaud who has been in prison for the last six years. Budram Persaud is in need of medical assistance; he keeps going to the Medex and she just gives him Panadol, but he needs to see a doctor for his chest pain. Sometimes he cannot eat, and he vomits blood. Sometimes when he goes to the Medex he is greeted by the orderly and is told that the Medex is not working, is on lunch, is not seeing anyone or has to go out.
The job of the Medex is to ensure that all prisoners receive medical assistance. For the past six years Budram Persaud never got the opportunity to see a doctor, even though he complained many times.
Budram Persaud saw a top-ranking officer and told him about his health situation and the Medex not sending him to a see a doctor, but the officer told him that the Medex has to do their duty and he cannot do anything. I also spoke to an ASP concerning Budram Persaud’s health, and the ASP said he would try to talk to the Medex, but the situation is still the same, I don’t know what to say; as a relative I am fed up with this situation. It is a violation of human rights. This matter concerns all prisoners.
We are all are human and must be treated as such.
Yours faithfully,
Miss Persaud
