Headquarters were seemingly on their way to yet another title after increasing their lead over their opponents at the annual Track and Field Athletics Championships at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary yesterday.
After taking an early lead in the points standings one day ago, Headquarters (HQ) recorded 213 points at the end of day two.

Seasoned campaigner Dennis Horatio fired a warning that he is still one of the best distance runners in the country and among the armed forces by producing a phenomenal run to capture the men’s 5000 metres in 15:33.4s. The race was so one-sided that second place finisher Larry Josiah 16:30.8s was almost lapped by Horatio who had a bad 800 metres run on day one.
“Well in the 800 metres I wasn’t feeling it, but today (yesterday) I was motivated by what people were saying and what the papers wrote about so I came out and ran hard and this is just the beginning because I’ll take the 1500 metres on Friday as well,” Horatio stated confidently.
Natasha Alder was as dominant as ever as she threw the javelin 34.03 metres leaving T. Brown-King trailing in a distant second with 28.73 metres.

The men’s ‘A’ class javelin saw Cordel English releasing a throw of 47.61 metres to take the top spot over Adrian Massiah’s throw of 44.77 metres and Julio Sinclair’s throw of 44.34 metres.
Local junior sprinter Tiffany Carto won the female youth club 200 metres in a time of 26.5s while Tevin Garraway won the male version in a time of 22.2s.
Edward DaSilva then took the men’s ‘B’ class 800 metres in a time of 2:06.7s to finish comfortably ahead of Mandela Collins who finished second and stopped the clock at 2:08.3s.
