5G Dialysis Center has introduced a new service which will allow Guyanese living with kidney disease to undergo treatments more frequently, at a lower cost, and in the comfort of their home.
According to a news release from the Center, the new service known as the ‘Home Hemodialysis’ solution will make life better for patients, while creating a treatment plan that is convenient for them.
Training takes one to two months at 5G Dialysis Center, which is located at 234-235 Aubrey Barker and Baramita streets, South Ruimveldt. Once training is completed, patients are expected to be able to self-manage their dialysis in their own homes or with support from care providers.
Importantly, the Center noted, this option allows the patient to design therapy around their lifestyle.
Assisted Home Hemodialysis, where a nurse is sent to administer dialysis in the home, is another affordable solution available for patients who choose not to self-manage their dialysis.
The Center said its Home Hemodialysis solution is the lowest cost dialysis option available and that it is the first provider in the Caribbean to offer patients the option of in-center or at home Hemo-
dialysis. The Home Hemo-dialysis is $12,000 per treatment, while the assisted Home Hemodialysis is $15,000 per treatment.
Benefits of the Home Hemodialysis (HHD) Pro-gramme are that it may reduce patients’ expenses by significantly reduce or eliminate key out-of-pocket costs and it may provide health and quality of life benefits to help them regain a more normal life, including spending more time at home with loved ones.
Treatment may be done overnight while the patient is asleep and recovery time is significantly improved, while reducing transportation expenses for clinic visits and also saving time.
The patient may continue working or return to work, enjoy health and quality of life benefits that can help them pursue school, family and personal goals and interests, the Center said.
It also said that more frequent HHD has been reported to offer overall cost savings for the healthcare system, by reducing the need for hospitalization and drugs, which make up a large portion of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patient costs, and that it can also address 6 of the top 8 reasons for hospitalization of ESRD patients.
