The Canada Guyana Forum has added its voice to the call for an impartial Commission of Inquiry into the excessive use of force by the Guyana Police Force on Lindeners protesting a hike in electricity rates that resulted in three deaths.
In a statement, the group vigorously condemns the reported use of excessive force by the police on July 18. “The forces of law and order of the state should have operated within the ambit of established rules of engagement in containing demonstrators who… were unarmed and without harmful intentions,” it added.
The group called for an urgent inquiry into the tragic events and a swift adoption and implementation of its recommendations.
