Guyana’s Priyanna Ramdhani has reached the semi-finals of the mixed and women’s doubles at the XXI Pan American junior badminton championships in Alberta, Canada.
She is also through to the final of the Under-11 Consolation event after being eliminated in the first round when she had to play mere hours after arriving in Edmonton.
In the girls doubles, Ramdhani and partner Valeena Van Heukelon of Canada, defeated Jessica Cheng andJeslyn Chow 21-11, 21-15 to reach the semis while in the consolation singles Ramdhani defeated her doubles partner Van Heukelon 21-15, 21-5 to reach the final after defeating Jeslyn Chow of Canada 21-16, 21-6 in the quarter-finals. She will contest the final at 10am today and the girls doubles at 12.20pm.
Meanwhile, in the Under-11 mixed doubles quarter-finals, Ramdhani and Gustavo Salazar of Peru defeated Filipe Lemos/Vitoria Brunetti of Brazil 21-10, 21-17 and Canadians William Creaser/Ashley Chung 21-4, 21-3 in the semi-finals.
In the boys doubles, Narayan Ramdhani(Guy)/ Jesus Murillo(El Salvador) lost to Vinicius Gori/Gabriel Moreira of Brazil 22-24, 16-21 while Jonathan Mangra/Jonathan Persaud of Guyana were beaten by Takeshi Isa/Diego Mini of Canada 11-21, 11-21.
In the Under-15 mixed doubles, Narayan Ramdhani/Ambika Ramraj of Guyana lost to Anson Lee/Giselle Chan of Canada at 13 and eight while Jonathan Mangra/Nadine Jairam also of Guyana lost to Cesar Brito/Bermary Polanco of the Dominican Republic 7-21, 11-21. In the Under-19 boys doubles, Avinash Odit (Guyana)/Carlos Acosta (Peru) lost to Phillip Chew/Jeffrey Kuo of Canada 2-21, 3-21. Some 15 countries are participating in the tournament.
