BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC – Barbados crushed Leeward Islands to record their fourth straight win as Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands also secured victories on the final day of the fourth round of matches in the Regional Under-15 Championship here yesterday.
Playing at Warner Park, Barbados pulled off a 186-run win behind another strong all-rounder performance, to put one hand on the trophy with one series of matches left in the tournament.
Resuming the day on 83 for one with a lead of already 130 runs, Barbados piled up an impressive 248 for seven with the prolific Lenico Boucher top-scoring with 76 and Nicholas Kirton getting 50.
Set an imposing 296 for victory, the Leewards crumbled for 110 all out with Jaidel Richardson resisting with 44.
Dominic Drakes (3-14), Deswin Currency (3-16) and Nicholas Kirton (3-16) all picked up three wickets. In the other games, Trinidad and Tobago defeated Guyana by seven wickets while the Wiindwards got past defending champions Jamaica by five wickets.
In a contest at Conaree Sports Complex, Guyana were dismissed for 200 in their second innings after resuming the day on 72 for one.
Travis Persaud built on his overnight 35 not out to score 70 while Runaldo Renee also converted his unbeaten 25 at the start into a polished 69.
Sachin Balai claimed five for 61 and Dejourn Charles, three for 43.
Set 148 to win, T&T were lifted by half-centuries from Negus Smith (65) and Dejourn Charles, 50 not out, as they got home easily.
At the Edgar Gilbert Complex, Michael Frew’s even century was not enough to deny the Windwards and keep Jamaica from yet another defeat.
The captain, resuming on 45 not out with Jamaica on 77 for two and ahead by 49 runs, resisted stoutly to get his side up to 181 for eight.
Darel Cyrus claimed five for 49 to finish with match figures of 12 for 79 while Joshua Mann (2-35) and Ryan John (2-50) picked up two wickets apiece.
The Windwards then cantered to their target of 154 with Christian Challery hitting the top score of 73 and the in-form Anil Matthew getting 60.
Devnairne Rowe was the leading bowler with four for 24.
The final round of matches begins tomorrow.
