The executives of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) are disassociating themselves from involvement in the selection process of the Guyana U-19 team which is currently participating in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional Under-19 cricket tournament which commenced yesterday in Barbados.
“The executives of the Georgetown Cricket Association would like to make it known that the association was not involved in the recent Under-19 Inter-Sub Association or Inter County cricket competitions,” the release from the GCA stated.
“The Georgetown Cricket Association also wants to make it clear that it did not authorize anyone, whether in the capacity of coach or selector to act on the association’s behalf.
The GCA’s release noted that Inter-Sub Association and Inter County Under-19 cricket competitions were held prior to the team being selected.
“A number of players, parents and club representatives, expressed their disappointment and frustration at the players that were selected to represent Guyana in the W.I.C.B Regional Under-19 cricket Tournament. “They felt that the squad was not a reflection of the performances of the players in the abovementioned matches and throughout the season,” the GCA release added.
The recent Inter association matches in Georgetown consisted of no more than three games where a representative Georgetown team, which the GCA stated was not sanctioned nor selected by the GCA, participated.
An Inter County competition which consisted of three games at the Everest Cricket Club ground was also staged, Stabroek Sports understands.
Subsequently, a Guyana team was selected for the Regional Under-19 tournament.
The Guyana U-19 team is Shawn Pereira (Captain), Chanderpaul Hemraj (Vice Captain), Ricardo Adams, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Dexter George, Shimron Hetmeyer, Denesh Mangal (wicketkeeper), Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai, Mohan Ramdeen, Brian Sattaur, Romario Shepherd, Vijai Surajpaul, Mark Tyrell, and Kamesh Yadram. The coach is Adrian Amsterdam and the manager Alvin Johnson.
