Police say that at about 1630h on Saturday, a woman who was in the company of a man at a liquor bar at Arakaka, NWD, approached a policeman in civilian clothing who was walking along the roadway at the time, and after a conversation went back into the bar.
The man who was with the woman subsequently attacked the policeman with a knife and chopped him about his body, causing the rank to resort to the use of force and the man was shot to his left thigh and right arm, the police said.
The policeman and the man, who has been identified as Brazilian miner Raymond Serere, 42 years, have been admitted to the Matthews’ Ridge Hospital for medical treatment.
Investigations are in progress.
