Police on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) are searching for four men who ransacked the home of a Grove Housing Scheme businessman on Saturday night and carted off cash, household items and several documents.
According to overseas-based Guyanese Ganesh Alexander, he and his family left the home, located at Lot 287, Section A, Block Y, Grove Housing Scheme at around 9pm on Saturday for the National Stadium where a show was being held. He said that when they returned home shortly after midnight, the locks to the grill at the front door were missing while the door was slightly ajar.
Alexander said that on entering the house he found it in a state of disarray with the two bedrooms ransacked. The man said that the thieves stole a briefcase containing an undisclosed amount of cash and several important documents including passports and other papers which he uses while travelling to the United States. The businessman said that the men also took a quantity of clothes, jewellery and household items while a small crow bar, which was used by the men to pry open the locks to the house, was left behind by the intruders.
Reports are that someone in the area spotted a white car parked in front of Alexander’s house shortly after the family left for the stadium. He said that a neighbour, whose home was also burgled in the past, made a note of the car’s number and according to him, four men were seen sitting in the car as the neighbour drove out of the area.
Alexander said that at around midnight when his friend returned home, the car was still parked in front of his home but only one person was visible. Shortly after the neighbour arrived home, the car sped off.
Several police ranks from the Diamond Police Station visited the area soon after the discovery was reported by Alexander and attempts were being made to locate the car used by the thieves.
