The Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana (AOAG) says that Liat Airlines Line Engineer Dorian Nicholas has been announced as the 2012 scholarship winner to the Airworthiness course conducted by the International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA) in London.
According to a press release from Public Communications Consultants Limited, in December, Nicholas graduated from the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School with a maintenance engineer’s licence. The School is operated by the AOAG and is headed by Captain Malcolm Chan-a-Sue, who is the Executive Director of the Association.
Captain Chan-a-Sue is said to be delighted and honoured that the IFA has accepted the School’s nomination for their 2012 Scholarship award, the release said.
The Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School is the only aeronautical engineering school in the Caribbean.
It is accredited and certified by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority and Civil Aviation Authorities of Jamaica and Suriname and the Caribbean Aviation Safety Oversight System of Caricom.
According to the release, the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority audited the School in 2008 and declared it acceptable for certification within British Overseas Territories in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, inclusive of Bermuda and the Falkland Islands.
The School has also been certified by the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards and is certified to the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Standards and is the first tertiary education institution in Caricom with an ISO 9001 certification.
To date, the School has graduated 217 students, 100 of whom are fully licensed aviation engineers working internationally and throughout the Caribbean for a number of major airlines.
