Boy who nearly drowned discharged from hospital

Kishan Nanand, 15, who almost drowned at the Splashmin’s Resort on July 22, was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday and is said to be improving quickly.

A 14-year-old boy, Kevin Ram, drowned after he went to rescue Nanand who ventured out into the no-swim zone. Neither of the boys could swim. They both went with their families who are employed at Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) to the firm’s fun day.

Nanand was first pulled out of the creek and was resuscitated before being transferred to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later, Georgetown Public Hospital. Stabroek News spoke to the lad’s mother yesterday, Tajyo Nanand, who indicated that her son has been discharged and appears to be feeling a lot better.  She said she had not quizzed her son about the events of the tragic day as she does not want to remind him. He too, she added, has not spoken about it. The child had gone to the resort with his father.
