The three Linden protestors who were shot dead by police two Wednesdays ago will be buried today at Bamia, Linden/Soesdyke Highway but not before their bodies are taken to the Square of the Revolution in Georgetown and the Wismar/Mackenzie bridge in Linden.
APNU MP Vanessa Kissoon disclosed the funeral arrangements during a joint opposition press conference yesterday afternoon.
She told reporters that the bodies of Shemroy Bouyea, Allan Lewis and Ron Somerset will be at the Square of the Revolution from 8:30 am to 10 am for a viewing and during this period presentations will be made by APNU leader David Granger and Alliance For Change member Nigel Hughes.
Kissoon stated that thereafter the remains of the trio will be transported to their respective homes in Linden and will be taken to the Wismar/Mackenzie bridge for a funeral service.
Interment she said will be at Bamia.
Lindeners had come out in their numbers for the start of a five-day protest over an increase in power tariffs, which took effect July 1. By the end of the first day, Somerset, Lewis and Bouyea were dead and at least 20 others were injured after police opened fire on them near the Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge.
Police have said that they had to resort to using tear gas and later fired shotgun cartridges at protestors, after missiles were hurled at them —an account challenged by some of the injured and others present at the protest.
Post-mortem examinations on the bodies of the three men one week later determined that they were killed by live rounds and it was suggested that these were fired from handguns.
Acting Police Commis-sioner Leroy Brumell, while opting not to answer questions posed by this newspaper, has since said that a full-scale investigation is ongoing to determine who is culpable.
