Twenty (20) teams will battle for the first place prize of $350,000 and a trophy when the second annual Inter-Market Futsal competition kicks off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on November 6.
This was disclosed at a media briefing at the CASH by coordinators of the tournament O’Neil Durant and Roy Ridley earlier this week.
It was also disclosed that the tournament, which was scheduled to start this month end has been rescheduled to the November date to accommodate other activities at the venue.
“I am appealing to the participants of the tournament not to be scared,” said Durant at the briefing.
“I know that you are anxious to have this tournament started but we are looking to have it started in November. We also would like the Stabroek Market people to be patient with us. We know that you are looking forward to the tournament to commence on the 31st but we had to reschedule the tournament because of some unforeseen circumstances,” he added.
Durant said the postponement was to accommodate an international science fair which runs from August through September and the Inter Guiana Games which will be held sometime after.
Durant said that the first place cash prize has been increased from $200,000 to $350,000 this year. This second, third and fourth place prizes for the tournament are $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 respectively.
