A monument erected in Buxton to memorialize the more than 400 Guyanese who have died as a result of police action since 1992 is scheduled to be unveiled today.
The monument which is located opposite Tipperary Hall at Buxton, Middle Walk, is the brainchild of Buxto-nion, Morris Wilson, a press release said.
According to him, he wanted to dramatize in a lasting manner the scourge of extrajudicial killings over the last two decades and also to properly honour the victims, most of whom perished between 2002 and 2006.
The release further stated that the unveiling of the monument was fast-tracked in the wake of the recent shootings in Linden, which claimed the lives of three residents.
The unveiling ceremony, which begins at 4 pm, will feature cultural presentations and a roll call of the names of the victims.
There will also be presentations by Wilson, AFC Executive Member, Nigel Hughes, PNCR and Opposition Leader, David Granger and WPA Executive Member, Dr David Hinds, the release concluded.
