Eight-time Caribbean Squash Champions, team Guyana has returned with the Caribbean Girls championship title, overall championship title and third place title in the boys championship. This is Guyana’s seventh consecutive girls title at the Caribbean Championships.
President of the Guyana Squash Association Andrew Arjoon said yesterday that the association will forever be grateful to its corporate sponsor, Digicel, for making the trip to Jamaica possible and also memorable.
“This has been made possible in a large part by Digicel who are our corporate sponsors and have been so for the past two years. We are really grateful for the support they have given us over the years and would hope they continue to pump into the national effort of squash through our Saturday progamme and our school programme.”
Digicel’s Marketing Director Jacqueline James said that this was a tremendous opportunity especially for the younger players on the team.
“It is great to be winning championships, it is also an honour for Digicel to be a part of it, and we want to ensure that talent within the country keeps on growing. This is also one way of supporting our young people and supporting you the Guyana Squash Association and our team. We just want to ensure that you continue winning and going forward which is growing in the sport and we just want to say congratulations and thank you very much.”
James said that Guyana may not know much about the squash association but this is just one way of ensuring that the population knows that the players have always been champions.
These comments were made at a small ceremony held at Herdmanston House yesterday to congratulate the team on its sterling performance.
