US Ambassador to Guyana D Brent Hardt and his wife Saskia Hardt hosted a piano recital with distinguished Guyanese-American international pianist Dr Ray Luck last Wednesday.
According to a press release from the US Embassy in Georgetown, the ambassador observed that the evening performance reflected the personal connections that exist between Guyana and the United States, as represented by the many talented persons who migrate to the US.
“It is also a reflection of the ongoing cultural connections the United States and Guyana share through music, dance, visual arts and other forms of cultural expression,” the release said.
Dr Luck was in Guyana to conduct his annual Caribbean Piano Workshop, which is now in its eight year and has attracted participants from Anguilla to Tobago and Guyana.
The workshop provided an excellent opportunity for musical exchange and instruction to contribute to the growth and appreciation of classical music in Guyana.
The Embassy said representatives of the government, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the diplomatic community, members of the local music community and music lovers alike attended the recital.
Dr Luck has performed extensively in several music capitals of the world, where he has won both public and critical acclaim, the release said. In 1992, the Guyana government awarded Dr Luck the Cacique’s Crown of Honour for outstanding musical achievement.
