Nearly 200 elected Amerindian leaders from far-flung villages will participate in consultations with decision-makers at the annual National Toshaos Council (NTC) meeting at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC), beginning tomorrow and ending Friday.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a release that the conference will see the election of toshaos and village councillors, and the presentation of nine communities’ land titles – four in Region 2; two each in Regions 1 and 9, and one in Region 10.
The sixth NTC Conference, which brings together elected village representatives to a session with cabinet members, is aimed at capitalising on developments in Amerindian communities, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon told the media.
The 2012 event, which will be held under the theme, ‘Establishing Strategic Approaches of Alliances for Sustaining Amerindian Development’ will see approximately 190 village leaders, toshaos and senior councillors as well as 13 Community Development Officers participating.
It is expected to conclude with the inking of an agreement between the United Nations Development Pro-gramme (UNDP), and the Guyana Government for the Amerindian Development Fund (ADF), Amerindian Affairs Minister, Pauline Sukhai was reported by GINA as saying recently.
